Post-convention withdrawal can be annoying, but good thing there’s always video to immortalize events and memories, so here’s the second batch of Idolfest videos from Otafest 2023! This one required more editing as I only had clips from parts of these performances since not only were I overheating in the blazing sun, so did my camera, so I had to take breaks in the recording to let it cool down. Good thing I like editing song medleys, so decided to make a compilation video of these clips.

While on vacation in Canada I attended Otafest in Calgary, as someone told me it was the best anime convention (possibly incorrect quote), and I can’t lie, it pretty much was the best convention I’ve been to. I had prior to the trip figured out how to record video in HLG (a type of HDR) with my newest camera so I decided to check out the Idolfest event outdoors, suffering through the immense heat and wildfire smoke filled air, to see what the performers had to offer and possibly record some video. I was not let down at all!

It’s been an absolute blast and honor, and also a lot of sweat and tears (luckily no blood!), to have worked on this fanmade VA-11 Hall-A voiceover project, especially considering the very talented cast we ended up with!

But, what is VA-11 Hall-A you ask? VA-11 Hall-A: Cyberpunk Bartender Action, or more easily pronounced, Valhalla, is a visual novel (game) centered around a bar in a dystopian cyberpunk alternate future, where we get to meet and talk to people trying their best to survive a harsh landscape of corporate greed and big economic inflation. Gameplay consists of reading. A lot. And then mixing drinks to the orders of the customers that you get to interact with. While the only choices you have as a player is what you serve and what items you buy for the main character it may sound lacking, but it’s the story, characters and how it’s written that is the biggest attraction for this visual novel. Though, playing it, while the music is outstanding, you really do wish the characters could be heard speaking too. And that’s what we wanted to fix!

If the weather is nice you might be lucky to spot Holo around the (fictional) farming village of Palsoe, like I did not long ago. Holo is a deity of harvest and… she’s usually not stark naked but it kinda helps not to scare humans when interacting with them. Her usual form is that of a giant wolf, which you can imagine is rather terrifying. She keeps her tail and ears in her human form (though it kinda makes it troublesome at times). While she was kind enough to pose for me I seem to have mostly gotten shots from her front, but I hope you enjoy the photos anyway!

The last of the cosplay shoots I did together with Balance during Sakura-con 2018 is here. These characters are from an action role-playing game called Final Fantasy XV. And that’s about as much as I know about the game. I know it’s a pretty popular game series, I’ve just never been attracted to J-RPGs in the first place. But that doesn’t mean I didn’t enjoy working with these cosplayers. It was a challenging shoot but the shots turned out well and the cosplayers were quite talented!

It’s time for one more of the Sakura-con group cosplay photoshoots with Balance, this time it’s with the girls from the popular (and free) visual novel Doki Doki Literature Club! The best way to describe the game is to tell people to play it for themselves, but if you really need to give an explanation but without giving off too much one could say it’s a very cute dating game… with a twist.
